Lightroom tip: Stacking Images in groups
I’ve been an Adobe Lightroom user since version 1.1, and I’m self taught. All that I know is what I’ve picked up by just trial and error or the random tip or tutorial on the web. So every once in a while, I have a “Duh” moment when I learn something that I probably should have know for the last 3 years. This was one of those learnings; I wanted to pass it on for others who may be like me.
Lightroom, in addition to being a powerful image editor, is designed to help you organize your photos. It has great tools inside to help you do this. You can begin organizing by placing images within different catalogs, collections, even smart collections. Keywords are also a great way to sort through the overwhelming amount of pictures that your catalog can become full of.
I have a fairly fast computer, but even so it would really bog down sometimes while just scrolling through images in the Library view. I got really annoyed as I scrolled back in time and had to wait while Lightroom choked my computer down to a crawl on those 2,500 pictures from last summer’s air show, when I was just trying to get to pictures from my son’s birthday party that had happened the week before. Wouldn’t it be great if I could just stack those 2,500 photos together and only see them when I want to? Duh. You can do that. I had no idea.
